Unis share electives to boost disciplines

8 June 2011

A HUBS-AND-SPOKES model to sustain teaching in vulnerable disciplines is under way, with a pilot in advanced year physics electives being shared between Newcastle and James Cook universities.

In the first semester, eight Newcastle students studied physics taught at JCU, while this semester five JCU students are picking up a subject taught at Newcastle.

Newcastle deputy vice-chancellor (academic) Kevin McConkey said of the arrangement: "The University of Newcastle is a keen participant in this initiative. The arrangement allows the university to offer our students a broader range of courses and access to experts beyond Newcastle."
